This is the aftermath of a fire I shot last week. A man was injured after running back into his mobile home to try and save his dogs. Both dogs died in the fire.

More photos of MacKenzie Stuck, see post below. Literally two days after I posted that, Tim and I were notified that her doctor found another brain tumor. She had an operation on Monday to remove it, but before going to the hospital, MacKenzie opened all of the cards Hanover High School students made for her. She is a very strong little girl.

This is a photo of Hanover basketball player Abbey Rhodes and 12-year-old MacKenzie Stuck. MacKenzie has been battling brain cancer for the past four years, and Abbey organized a teddy bear toss during half-time at one of her games to help raise money for her. The bear MacKenzie is holding says "Jesus Loves Me."

We also had another boy who was riding in the same fire truck as us and his photo is on the bottom. He was super cute, and his mother said that he hasn't smiled that much in a very long time.

I shot these photographs today at a Celebration of Life service for Emily Silverstein, the Gettysburg College student who was fatally stabbed last week. I wasn't allowed inside the chapel, so I had to stand in the rain for two hours waiting for people to walk into the chapel or out. Even though I had limited resources, I was at least happy with these two photos.

This is the beginning of a memorial garden for the student who was fatally stabbed last week in Gettysburg. The entire story is really sad and shocking, even amidst all of the violence happening lately in Hanover and around the country.

I went to Washington over the weekend and saw the cherry blossoms. They weren't fully bloomed but still beautiful nonetheless. I also got a chance to visit the Newseum. Of course my favorite part was the display of all of the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs. As you walk into the room a quote from Eddie Adams is on the wall that describes pretty much every photograph displayed:

Bigfoot made an appearance in Hanover over the weekend (not the big furry monster bigfoot...but the monster truck bigfoot) at Firestone Tires for its grand opening. This little girl could not even reach the top of the tire...it was cute.

I was shooting the New Oxford girl's basketball play-off game last Friday when I looked up in the balcony and saw these young girls watching the game so intensely. I usually shoot part of the game from the balcony, so when I went upstairs they were still there, and I noticed a few of them were wearing basketball jerseys. I thought it was a cute photo, so I shot a few frames and then continued shooting more action shots. Even though New Oxford lost and are done with the play-offs, I know these young girls look to the basketball players as role models regardless if they win or lose.

Airsoft battle

So, I was driving around last week and saw four kids walking down the street carrying guns. It looked a little unusual, and when I asked what they were doing they said they were on their way to their friend's house for an Airsoft battle. I had no idea what they were talking about, and I needed a feature, so I joined them. Well Airsoft guns, which I later found out, are BB guns and are currently pretty popular among pre-teens. However, it was a little disturbing since they looked like real guns. I may just be overreacting, but I chose photos of the guns that didn't look as real to run in the newspaper because I could already hear the complaints. The bottom photo did not run, but I still liked it.

I shot this last week when we received some heavy snowfall (which in Hanover terms means 1 to 3 inches). This is probably the best sledding hill I have ever seen and growing up in Erie, Pa., I have seen and experienced many.

I shot this basketball game between two local teams last Friday. The score was close the entire game, and it came down to the last second in overtime. Of course I missed the winning shot because I was at the wrong end of the court, but I liked these three photographs the best.

I had to find a feature today for tomorrow's newspaper, so I drove around for almost two hours looking for a photograph. I'm sick of seeing construction features, so I tried to find something different. It was kind of cold, and there were not a lot of people outside. I finally found this 83-year-old man raking leaves in his front yard ( I haven't seen anyone raking leaves all fall), and the light was really nice for about five minutes. When I got back to the office, I found out James shot a feature of somebody raking leaves as well, which is just my luck.

So, I survived my first Hanover Halloween Parade, and I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it before. It was so crazy I felt like I could not concentrate. I think this is the cutest photo I've ever taken, and I also like it because it captured kind of a hidden moment between the man and his niece.
